Soulland A-W 2009-10 SOULLAND AW09 'SAVAGE MOUNTAIN'
In the late summer of 2008, a crew of 28 challenged one of mother earth's most extreme places. 11 of them didn't make it home alive. Savage Mountain, or Chogori as the locals call it, looks beautiful on a sunny day, but the world's second highest mountain has a merciless side. Many souls lie buried under the snow. Soulland's aw09 collection "Savage Mountain" is a tribute to nature itself and all the souls buried on the mountain now and forever. The inspiration for the collection springs from the power of the mountain and the clothing that was worn by the first climbers to see the world from the top of Savage Mountain. The collection includes down-filled jackets, traditional chinos with tailored details, knitted pullovers, cardigans, classic button-down shirts, and much more. --- SOULLAND’s creative backbone, 24 year old Silas Adler was born in Denmark, but has roots in both Sweden and Tanzania. This young Scandinavian spent his youngest childhood in alternative surroundings in rural Jutland. Before moving to Copenhagen as a young teen Silas also spent several years in Gothenburg, Sweden. The combination of countryside alternative lifestyle and the urban life on and around the streets of Gothenburg and Copenhagen makes up the driving force in Silas’s work as a designer and graphic artist. After a serious knee injury put an end to idle skateboarding around Copenhagen, Silas founded SOULLAND at age 17 as an excuse for not going to school. Since then the company has grown into a serious enterprise. Without any formal education in the field of design Silas has been nominated as Denmark’s best upcoming designer (Danish Fashion Awards) and Scandinavian talent of the year by Swedish Plus46 Awards. And has made considerable noise with three consecutive shows at Copenhagen fashion week, to much critical acclaim from media and the local scene alike. The street-level and in-crowd buzz from Copenhagen has also been noticed internationally in cultural magazines and fashion periodicals such as Wad (France), Collezione Sport and Street, The Fader (US), Lowdown (Germany), Milk X, (China), Style and the Family Tunes (Germany), Arena (DK), Euroman (DK), and close to all nationwide dailies in home state Denmark. SOULLAND is now sold in notable stores around Scandinavia and the rest of the world, such as: Oak (NYC), Crywolf (NYC), Firmament (Berlin), Goodhood (London), Sprmarkt (Amsterdam), Freudian Kicks (Oslo), Azita (Frankfurt), Très Bien (Malmö), Scout (Gothenburg), Norse and Force of Nature in Copenhagen etc. From homemade t-shirt prints at the outset in 2002 to full sized menswear collection SOULLAND has grown up alongside Silas and the other way around. Going from small scale underground success to the next level demands seriousness and hard work, and naturally a helping hand, which is why partner and head of sales Kristian Nyholm came aboard in 2006. 11 Shops for Soulland |
