LOREAK MENDIAN
It all started in 1995, when Victor Serna and Xabi Zirikiain opened a shop in San Sebastian´s port area.
Xabi, an industrial engineer who at the time earned a living designing airplane wings, had already gained some notoriety in town as the creator of an ubiquitous daisy-shaped logo.
Together with Victor, and with more enthusiasm than experience, they embarked on the adventure of creating a clothes brand: Xabi as the logo designer, reflecting a wide range of influences coming from music, art and architecture, and Victor taking care of the figures and assuming the role of the entrepreneur.
Together they created a whole universe: the Loreak Mendian universe, whose nucleus is the San Sebastian store, a true concept store which not only showcases the brand s collections, collaborations and latest designs, but also includes in the same space a shoe store and a hairdresser.
Nowadays the company is fully consolidated and is present in markets such as France, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Australia or Japan, while in Spain it has its own retails stores in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, San Sebasti n and Ir n. It s been undoubtedly a long way, if we remember how it all started: with the famous ’daisy T-shirt. A starting point which slowly developed into the elaborate collections that Loreak Mendian presents these days.
The brand s influences are many and very diverse: architecture (European Modernism, International Style), art (Marcel Duchamp, Surrealism, Dada, Abstract Expressionism), music (Judee Sill, Love, Miles Davis, Beatles, Bad Brains ), surf and, last but not least life itself!
Loreak Mendian FW13
About cold and short days
After the summer season, nature changes. Landscapes turn to red, days get shorter, light becomes orange and temperatures drop. Very gradually, the contrast between the landscape and the thermometer helps us make a natural transition toward winter.
Loreak Mendian draws inspiration from these seasonal changes and applies it to the cornerstones of its philosophy: Art, Music, Roots. The Fall/Winter collection for boys and girls revolves around these sources and goes to show the degree of maturity reached by the brand.
Loreak Mendian’s proposal for FW13 is full of references to the forthcoming season’s colours (Fall-Winter): forest greens, dark reds, ink blues, burnt oranges, shades of wine, plus a few livelier tones to bring some light to those garments we normally hide under our coats: coral, emerald green or a low-key lemon yellow.
This range provides the various design lines with much solidity and identity. All these garments have been designed to be worn almost in any occasion: smart, coolly casual or leisure-style.
All this, without ever losing the distinctive halo of its lovingly conceived design and conveying a perfect balance between functionality, durability and comfort. The brand brings colours to life by means of the garments’ silhouettes, which have been designed with volume in mind, whether they hang softly or they are extra slim.
As befits a brand born on the shore of the Cantabric Sea, Loreak Mendian never fails to evoke the sea landscape in its collections. Navy garments are always a fixture in the brand’s collections, and of course they are featured once again in FW13.
