AUTUMN/WINTER 2013 COLLECTION
Atelier Swarovski creates the ultimate luxury fashion accessory line by collaborating with some of the world’s leading designers across the disciplines of fashion, jewellery, design and architecture.
The Autumn/Winter 2013 collection features a new collaboration with world-renowned product designers Fredrikson Stallard as well as re-interpretations of three classic Atelier collections – from stellar fashion designer Christopher Kane, multi-disciplinary artist Arik Levy and Zaldy, costume designer to Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson.
Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board, Swarovski Crystal Business, comments: “For the past six years we have been privileged to work with almost 50 of the world’s leading designers to create collections that demonstrate the versatility of crystal and push the boundaries of fashion jewelry. Atelier’s Autumn/Winter collection showcases that pioneering spirit as well as crystal’s inspirational creative potential.”
‘Space Flower’ by Fredrikson Stallard
"We wanted to contrast the precise cuts of Swarovski crystal with the soft refined elegance of a mirror polished dome. The result amplifies the characteristics of the crystal and, like tiny screens; the domes project the crystals’ colors, refractions and reflections to create a virtual animated sensation when worn. In clusters like flowers in a contemporary meadow, they radiate power, elegance and 21st century femininity." Fredrikson Stallard
Patrik Fredrikson and Ian Stallard began working together in 1995 and have gone on to win international recognition as leading lights of British avant-garde design. ‘Space Flower’, their first jewelry collection for Atelier Swarovski, uses just one crystal poised at the centre of polished reflective metal discs to create bold neckpieces, bracelets, earrings and rings that change with every movement.
‘Bolster’ by Christopher Kane
Christopher Kane’s iconic crystal mesh ‘Bolster’ collection, originally created as part of his Spring/Summer 2007 runway collection, has been reworked in seasonal colourways including fern green, dark indigo and crystal bronze shade. Along with the classic ‘bolster’ bracelet, necklace and multi strand, new styles, such as a twist necklace and thinner bolster necklace, add depth to the collection.
‘Shadow’ by Zaldy
“I'm not primarily a jewelry designer and when I tried to draw the designs I wasn’t happy with the renderings so I decided to sculpt the jewelry out of clay. This allowed me to create pieces using the stones and the clay as my inspiration. Every morning I would wake up and start playing with the clay and crystals until I ended up with this collection.” Zaldy
A rare creative talent moving seamlessly between music and fashion, Zaldy’s first big collaboration was with Gwen Stefani on her L.A.M.B Line. Since then he has switched his focus to designing stage wear for the likes of Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson. Re-interpreting pieces from his highly successful ‘Shadow’ collection from Spring/Summer 2012, Zaldy introduces new styles and colorways, including luminous green on gold and crystal blue shade on his dynamic geometric shapes.
‘RockCraters’ by Arik Levy
“With RockCraters I aim to celebrate a contemporary return to futuristic nature. Just like a mineral discovered in the wild, the sculpted craters expose the beauty of the formation composed by a man-made micro chaton cut. These crystal formations, in a unique mix of multiple colours, create depth, reflection and shine.” Arik Levy
As a designer, technician, artist, photographer and film maker, Arik Levy’s work stretches across a multitude of creative fields. The ‘RockCraters’ collection re-invents pieces from Levy’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection of highly polished metal structures reminiscent of rocks in the natural world, broken open to expose the crystal within. The Rock Craters contain thousands of crystal chatons which illuminate the structured form that surrounds them whilst the beauty of the collection lies in juxtaposition of material and texture. Colour ways this season include, purples, pinks, blues and golden shadow.
In 1895, Daniel Swarovski, a Bohemian inventor and visionary, moved to the village of Wattens, Tyrol in Austria, with his newly-invented machine for cutting and polishing crystal jewelry stones. From this beginning that revolutionised the fashion world, Swarovski has grown to be the world’s leading producer of precision-cut crystal for fashion, jewelry and more recently lighting, architecture and interiors. Today, the company, still family-owned and run by 4th and 5th generation family members, has a global reach with some 23,000 employees, a presence in over 120 countries and a turnover in 2010 of 2.06 billion Euros.
