14 oz., der führende Denim- und Urbanwear Store aus Köln, feierte am 17. Juli 2008 seine Wiedereröffnung in Berlin. Gelegen in Berlin-Mitte, dem aufstrebenden „Fashion District“ der Stadt, bietet 14 oz. seinen Kunden neben einem einzigartigen Marken-Portfolio ein umfassendes Shopping-Erlebnis, das sich durch besonderen Service und Komfort auszeichnet. Die für 14 oz. ausgewählten Marken bestechen durch Qualität und Authentizität und unterstreichen einen individuellen Stil. Das Angebot umfasst sowohl demokratische als auch High ...more End Marken. Der Fokus des Kernsegments liegt auf Denim. Andere Bereiche sind Menswear, Ladies Fashion, Outerwear, Schuhe und Sneakers sowie Accessoires. Bei der Auswahl der Brands wurde besonderer Wert auf Qualität und Authentizität gelegt: nur qualitativ hochwertige, umweltbewusste und authentische Marken mit starkem Profil und einer Produktphilosophie kamen für 14 oz. in Frage.
Ein Highlight der Menswear ist die Kollektion von Nigel Cabourn, die aus authentischer, funktionaler Kleidung besteht. Die Ladies Fashion ist klassisch-couturig. Die Auswahl an Schuhen reicht von Sneakers bis hin zu klassischen Lederschuhen. „14 oz. bietet eine zeitlose Garderobe“, sagt Karl-Heinz Müller, Geschäftsführer.
Bei der Planung und Umsetzung des 14 oz. Stores wurde besonderer Wert auf die Erhaltung des Charakters und der Erhabenheit des historischen Hauses gelegt. Das denkmalgeschützte, vierstöckige Gebäude wurde 1890/91 von Alfred Messel errichtet, der für den Bau der großen „Wertheim”-Warenhäuser berühmt ist. Das Neo-Renaissance-Gebäude mit verzierter Sandsteinfassade wurde ursprünglich als öffentliches Kaffeehaus genutzt und 1895 in die erste Lesehalle von Berlin umgewandelt. Während des Ersten Weltkrieges traf sich hier die Berliner Unterwelt, damals war diese Gegend von Prostitution und Kriminalität geprägt. Nach jahre- langer Nutzung als Lagerhaus zog Mitte der 1990er als erster Mieter das Restaurant „Schwarzenraben” ein und wandelte das Haus in einen Hotspot für Mitte-Hipster, Celebrities und Touristen. Zu Beginn des neuen Jahrtausends setzten sich die baulichen Veränderungen im Viertel fort, und Designer-Boutiquen und Flagship Stores aus dem Jeans-und Sportswear-Segment etablierten sich hier zunehmend. Heute zählt der Bezirk Mitte zu den inspirierendsten und kreativsten Mode-Hotspots der Welt. Die deutsche Hauptstadt hat ihr neues Zentrum – die „Neue Mitte”.
Die Innenräume von 14 oz. wurden von den Architekten Ansgar Schmidt und Henning Ziepke von s1 archi- tektur mit einem Konzept gestaltet, das dem beeindruckenden Gebäude gerecht wird. Die Qualität der für das Interieur genutzten Materialen entspricht der der Gebäudestruktur, z.B. wurde der ursprüngliche Asphaltboden im Erdgeschoss erneuert. Für das Untergeschoss, in dem sich der Vintage Denim Bereich befindet, wurde ein herrschaftlicher Holzdielenboden von einem Spezialisten aus Belgien importiert. Die handverarbeiteten „Hollandse Witte”-Fliesen stammen aus den Niederlanden, und für die Gestaltung der
Wände wurden traditionelle Silikon-Farben gewählt.
Der Großteil der Möbel wurde von dem Pariser „Marché aux Puces”, einem der berühmtesten Flohmärkte der Welt, nach Berlin gebracht. „Ich bin viel herumgereist, um Möbel zu finden, die nach meinem Empfinden zu diesem einzigartigen und besonderen Gebäude passen”, erklärt Karl-Heinz Müller. Das aus dem Jahr 1929 stammende, handgefertigte Interieur aus Holz von Agabeyan & Frères, dem berühmten Pariser Haute-Couture-Stoffhändler, wurde dort ab- und im 14 oz. wieder aufgebaut. Im Agabeyan & Frères kauften schon
Coco Chanel, Yves St. Laurent und Louis Féraud ein. Diese Möbel wurden mit Stücken von Jacques Adnet, Ikone des luxuriösen französischen Modernismus, und anderen Antiquitäten ergänzt. Alle Lampen stammen von bekannten Art-Déco- und Art-Nouveau-Künstlern wie Marius Ernest Sabino, Muller Frères oder Jules Leleu. Die Dekorationsstoffe wurden speziell gewebt und gemäß originaler Agabeyan-Muster aus den 1930ern bedruckt.
Die Innenausstattung des 14 oz. unterstreicht die Schönheit des 450m² großen Ladenraumes mit seinen 4.5 Meter hohen Wänden. „Ich möchte die Seele dieses denkmalgeschützten Gebäudes bewahren”, betont Karl-Heinz Müller. 14 oz. ist mit einem „Locker Room“ ausgestattet, in dem Einkaufstaschen und Mäntel in persönlichen Fächern aufbewahrt werden können. Die geräumigen Anproben sind mit einer angenehmen Seitenbeleuchtung und großzügigen Wandspiegeln ausgestattet. Die Hauptattraktion der Damenanprobe ist eine verborgene und verspiegelte Kolonnade. Besonderen Gästen steht ein Suite-ähnlicher VIP-Bereich zur Verfügung.
Gegenüber des „Locker Rooms“ befinden sich luxuriöse „Restrooms“, die, durch den „Goldenen Raum” betreten, einen erhabenen Eindruck vermitteln. Eine Attraktion des 14 oz. ist das Seewasseraquarium, das 6.000 Liter Wasser und faszinierende Quallen enthält. Spezielle Pumpen und Wasserbewegungssysteme sorgen für die notwendige Strömung und geben Plankton ab.

In the process of brand selection, strict attention has been paid to the quality and authenticity of the brands: only high-quality, eco-conscious and genuine brands with a strong profile and a philosophy behind their products were selected for 14 oz.
A highlight of the men’s segment is the collection of Nigel Cabourn, which is based on authentic, functional clothing. The women’s collection is rather classic-couture, with brands like Alice San Diego, Cacharel, Parkvogel or Paul & Joe Sister. The shoe selection spans from sneakers to classic leather shoes, such as by n.d.c. made by hand, Red Wing Shoes and Alden (from February 2009).
