CARSTEN HAASE
IMAGINATION PRINTED
It’s a hare with feet of a stork and a bust of a cockerel which serves as the logo for his emponymous brand:
In German "Haase" means "hare".
When he was younger, in this corner of Bavaria where he grew up, legends ran where chimeras devoured little children who deviated from the right path.
But he did not end-up between the teeth of an evil creature, although he did depart from the original way set out for him.
He launched himself into fashion studies at the University of Trier in Germany, then at Central St. Martin's School in London, where he lived and worked for several years.
After twenty years as a freelance designer and art director in both sportswear and luxury prêt-à-porter, this adopted Parisian returns to his roots, that of his childhood fantasies...
"People love it when you make them travel"
Old beliefs?
Yes, his creative universe echoes ancient tales and legends.
Scarves are the first accessories of the brand launched in early 2012.
The prints are inspired by mythology, imaginary journeys and “cabinets de curiosités”, often evoking the birth of new chimeras.
A scarf folds and unfolds. It’s a game and the games of Carsten Haase need second reading, double-takes.
The scarves, often hand woven & printed in India, made of silk, cotton and linen, wool, modal and cashmere, have already been sold to numerous shops and concept stores in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, South Korea and Japan before arriving in the big department stores for the AW season 2013 – 2014.
