Maria Glück
Maria Glück founded her brand H O W L in 2013. After studying law at the University of Deusto and Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country UPV / EHU in Bilbao, she moved to Berlin with an exchange scholarship and studied fashion design at the HTW Berlin for two semesters. With a background on visual arts and sculpture, Maria Glück decided to deepen her work and research on fabrics, texture and fashion. Her main interest is the conception of designs and collections that represent a great challenge in the combination of materials; creating unique shapes; working with fabrics and sustainable production methods.
Maria Glück has presented her collections at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid (FW 14), Berlin (SS14), International Fashion Showcase at London Fashion Week (FW15), Paris Fashion Week, Fashionclash, La Encartada .. Maria Glück was finalist of Bilbao Art & Fashion and in 2014 one of the finalist of The Future Of Fashion Program co-organized by Not Just A Label and Who's Next Paris. She was in Paris Fashion Week with the Berlin Showroom and took part of the pioneer event "Origin, Passion and Beliefs" organized by Fiera di Vicenza and Not Just A Label in Vicenza. In September 2014 Maria Glück was featured at TALENTS by VOGUE ITALIA..
After a short break to recover from recent back surgery, Maria Glück presents in 2015 her collection FW15 during London Fashion Week and takes part in the International Fashion Showcase organized by the British Fashion Council. The collection 'Slowdownquickly' makes reference to that need of softness, comfort and clarity. Now recovered, Maria Glück is working on the SS16 Collection.
On the 27th April 2015, H O W L by Maria Glück launches a PRE-ORDER campaign of 2 weeks. During this time, it will be possible to Pre-order some looks of FW15-16 collection reducing production waste in fashion and listening directly to the final customer. Another part of the collection will also be available at well known multibrand stores by pre-fall (also the time of delivery of pre-orders). This Pre-Order will be complemented by a crowdsourcing project/campaign starting end of April, that will look to support and collaborate in the new collection Spring Summer 16, that will be presented in September 2015.
H O W L
H O W L by Maria Glück creates high-end fashion with characteristic minimal shapes and elaborated textures. Handmade techniques mixed with a continuous research on materials (branches, flowers, cork, raffia or technological bio fabrics).. H O W L's statement involves the use of ecological and organic fabrics, recycled materials and fabrics, as well as fabrics that come from small mills and traditional techniques. Sometimes traditional ways of producing fabrics tend to disappear and Maria Glück aims to support these production methods by integrating these materials into her designs and helping small communities with traditional and unique weaving techniques.
Often the challenge comes by the addition and combination of unconventional fabrics to more classic ones: wood or cork in combination with organic silk. Yet not all fabrics are organic, as recycled or mixed and synthetic fabrics (that may come from a sustainable production) may be part of the collection. Digital prints and organic dyeing when it comes to colors. Production is local or regional (EU) and sustainable, respecting all rights and labor standards.
H O W L by Maria Glück has great interest on supporting women's empowerment, as well as artist and art collaborations. Artists are a vulnerable collective, and the designer aims to support artistic collaborations and projects.
