NUMERO 10 IS THE CREATION OF ALBERTO MONDINI, A CRAFTSMAN WHO HAS BEEN WORKING AS A TOP NOTCH ARTISAN WITH HIS HANDS AND CLEVERNESS IN THE LEATHER, AND THE FASHION WORLD AS A WHOLE, FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS.
His endless dedication and his passion for leather is the consequence of an honored and faithful tradition that has fulfilled Alberto’s life over generations. When this genetic heritage knocked his turn, it just translated into a severe handicraft method that yearned to explore the roots of this technique, and go back to basics to a 100% Italian honesty and discipline of working and developing breakthrough pieces, state-of-the-art items that entail “out-of-the-box” design and outstanding capacity to be functional.
Any casual event, just like the meeting with streetwear “guru” Valeria Monzeglio, became a brainstorming for Alberto and for this line of items of Numero 10. Nonetheless, it was the admiration towards Valeria Monzeglio’s father, aviator Ettore Monzeglio, who was well known for being a forerunner in about everything he did, and the awe for those Swiss aviation quality bags.
WITH THE SPIRIT OF THE GREAT AVIATORS, AND THE DETERMINATION OF THOSE WHO WANT TO FLY AS HIGH AS A ROCKET, WE DECIDED TO PUT OURSELVES IN THE MARKET BY ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING AT THE WHITE FAIR BACK IN 2003:
I craved to conceived a first-rate and world-beater product, just like all that represents wearing the “Number 10″ in a soccer team. Besides, the birth of my son, back on December 10 2002, became one of those signals that yelled at me saying: “you are following the right path”.
Alberto Mondini is the son of Giorgio Mondini, Italian champion of cycling (in the picture he appears alongside with Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi). Alberto overcame, step by step, a certain interest for “customized vintage” and at the moment he finds himself producing bags and accessories for both men and women, with an original inspiration, surrounded by unique pieces that may secretly tell you the story on how the leather was treated from scratch until becoming that piece they are.
The intention is to produce bags from the unmistakable personality, in the light of the fact that each specimen is processed and dyed by hand, just like it was done by the ancient Tuscan leather craftsmen.
The goal is to create accessories that come into people’s lives and become necessary, a milestone, just like something we dearly treasure. This objective will only be reached when we think about those models and items that are forgotten by ourselves in the closet for a few years (but also for a couple of decades), and when we find them again, they are still fresh and current.
