PB 0110 – BECOMING SOON
PHILIPP BREE PRESENTS HIS OWN EXQUISITE BAG COLLECTION IN NATURAL LEATHER AND LINEN
The unique aroma of vegetable-tanned natural leather hides and the robust feel of bales of linen take pride of place in Philipp Bree’s earliest childhood memories. In 1970, the year before he was born, his parents founded the BREE bag company. Initial production took place in the family living room. In 1998 Philipp Bree and his brother took over the management of the family firm, which by then was active around the globe. Fourteen years later he stepped down from the operational side of the business and in the autumn of 2012 set up his own brand, PB 0110.
Philipp Bree holds a firm belief in the deep significance of beloved objects in our everyday lives. He has always been fascinated by objects that acquire their special value through personal usage and bonding over the years − objects that accompany us through our lives and later remind us of this shared journey.
His collection is driven by this fascination. It focuses on the rediscovery and contemporary creation of bags and accessories in vegetable tanned natural leather and pure linen. Philipp Bree is convinced that these materials provide the ideal foundations for extraordinary products that acquire additional charm over the years as they develop a unique patina.
The first collection is designed by Ayzit Bostan, designer and artist, who created all the women’s models.
The men’s bags and the kid’s model were developed by Christine Ahrens, a London-based specialist in shoe and accessory design. All the accessories are the work of Christian Metzner, a young product designer from Berlin. The designer’s initials appear in the name of each item. The fittings are custom-made for the collection and are designed by Friedericke Daumiller from Munich.
The bags and accessories feature a timeless design with modern accents, as in the colour variations in the straps and handles or the way in which large unbroken spaces are offset by precision refinements and details.
Three models stand out in the collection: among the women’s bags it is the pure simplicity of the tote bag AB 1, where ingenious adjustment of the strap means it can be carried either on a short handle or slung over the shoulder. The spacious and masculine work bag CA 1 excels in its generously dimensioned sections and open, precision-polished edges. The third member of the trio is the CA 7 backpack for kids. This is made of leather just one millimetre thick, which makes it both light and strong. It is easy to imagine how it will take on a unique patina with everyday use and one day be handed down to an eager brother or sister.
For the production of his collection, Philipp Bree has put his trust in the precision craftsmanship of European manufacturers. The high-quality materials are sourced from specialist companies in Germany, Belgium and Italy.
