COMPANY PROFILE
It was in 1945 that Stefano Serapian, Armenian by birth and Italian by adoption, discovered the quality of Italian leather and began to produce small leather goods. But it was the encounter, sentimental and professional, with Gina Flori, a Tuscan living in Milan, that gave rise to today’s Serapian, an all-Italian Love Story, full of passion, creative genius and manufacturing know-how, style and quality.
For over 70 years now Serapian has been a unique, exclusive presence in the world of high-end Italian leather, representing the excellence of “Made in Italy”, the value that has always been the Company’s greatest strength: all stages of production, from the sophisticated tanning processes to the cutting of the hides, are carried out in Italy.
At the heart of the maison is craftsmanship, which Serapian has never sacrificed. It has employed a team of master craftsmen ever since its start up: it is thanks to their commitment and know-how that Serapian creations have not only impeccable quality but also unique character.
With an archive of over 6,000 models and a stockpile of precious hides that’s been accumulating since the ’30s, Serapian has grown from a small workshop into a great brand.
Serapian how has over 90 specialist operators working in facilities totalling over 4,000 square metres, including the original Milan premises in via Jommelli, where the creativity and leather cutting are concentrated, and the Varese site, where the men’s collections and luggage items are made and where projects with major international high-end retailers are developed.
Ardavast Serapian, son of the founder, has been the Company’s CEO since the end of the ’70s. Under his guidance, the brand has introduced innovative new products like STEPAN, an exclusive coated cotton, and the increasingly strong BESPOKE concept (covering both “tailor made” and “made to order”) applied to leather goods.
Serapian’s single-brand boutiques are in Milan, Venice, Rome, Taormina, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Doha. Serapian is also distributed through the wholesale channel in 25 countries, with around 100 multi-brand stores, such as La Rinascente in Milan, Luisa Via Roma, Barney’s and Bloomingdale’s in New York, Harrods and Harvey Nichols in London, Takashimaya and Isetan in Japan, Tsum in Moscow, Jemoli in Zürich, KaDeWe in Berlin and at Serapian.com for online shopping.
The objective for the next few years is further expansion in international markets and in Japan and the Far East in particular.
