philosophy.
(MALIN+GOETZ) is sensitive skin care.
Family-owned-and-operated, our original apothecary launched in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood in 2004, focusing on the needs of women and men with sensitive skin. Matthew Malin suffers from rosacea, eczema, seborrhea, fragrance allergies and dry skin. He and Andrew Goetz have developed easy-to-use treatments to be both gentle and effective for multiple skin conditions. Our advanced formulas blend trusted natural ingredients with performance technologies for the face, body and hair. Our perfumes and candles, highlighting that we do not use synthetic fragrances in our treatments, offer beautiful sensory experiences and luxurious gift-giving options.
history.
Launched March 2004, (MALIN+GOETZ)’s Chelsea store, while modern in every way, is similar to traditional neighborhood apothecaries of years past: full of activity, wonderful treatments, and great customer service. Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz waited on each customer themselves for the first three years and still live in Chelsea around the corner from the store, similar to chemists 100 years ago. Our wholesale operation, shipping and packing, all happened from behind this store-until we outgrew this space. And, of course, our bulldogs, Bob and Junior, became neighborhood (and international) superstars as passers-by stopped to photograph the "dogs in the window".
In 2007, we moved our wholesale operations, and our dogs, to our offices and warehouse on West 29th Street, just walking distance from our original shop. The Chelsea Apothecary was expanded to include a perfumery area where the office once was.
In 2010, we opened our second Manhattan apothecary on the UWS at 455 Amsterdam Avenue at West 82nd Street. Our third and fourth stores, located in 238 N. Larchmont Boulevard, Los Angeles, and 1270 Madision Avenue, NYC, opened in 2012 and 2013. Our two latest locations, located in Downtown LA and Santa Monica, will open their doors in early 2015.
formulations.
Since we opened our doors, we have developed our own formulas and manufacture our products locally to our operations. We support other small, family run manufacturing and formulating businesses in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Our candles are even made right here in Brooklyn! We have maintained loyal development and manufacturing partnerships since our beginning. This allows for quality control and volume pricing considerations that ultimately benefit our customers. For us, this is sustainable, fair and equal trade.
Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz personally develop each and every formula with a trusted chemist, whether a long time friend or industry specialist for a specific technology or ingredient expertise. The intent was to create products that supported and served our community from start to finish, and, to offer effective treatments that benefit everyone.
The key to our extraordinary cleansers is our hydration science. Gentle amino acid-based cleansing agents thoroughly purify and hydrate, helping to maintain a natural pH balance. Our advanced moisturizers are rooted in our absorption science to compliment our cleansers; they are oil-free and residue-free, blending nourishing fatty acids instead of traditionally greasy pore-clogging oils, silicones and waxes. Into both our cleansers and moisturizers, we incorporate beneficial botanical extracts that enhance performance and provide fresh natural scents that quickly evaporate - leaving room for personal fragrance choices. Each ingredient is carefully chosen as the least irritating and most advanced for performance.
Our two-step regimens offer head-to-toe pH balance - face, body, and hair - for both women and men. Each advanced formula blends trusted natural ingredients with gentle performance technologies to address skin sensitivities, irritations and allergies resulting from unnecessary products, over-marketed harsh ingredients, and false claims. The result is formulas without unnecessary detergents, colorants and synthetic fragrances creating the most effective systems to simplify your life. (MALIN+GOETZ) does not test on animals and is made in the USA.
